The initiative is also being implemented on the island of Menorca
The Ministry of Education and Universities, through the Territorial Directorate of Education of Ibiza and Formentera, has launched a new program to assist teaching staff in finding rental housing in Ibiza and Formentera. The aim is to support the settlement of professionals joining educational centres on these islands.
Through this program, the Territorial Directorate will act as an intermediary between property owners and teachers looking for accommodation, particularly those facing difficulties accessing the local housing market. The initiative responds to ongoing demands from teachers assigned to the Pityusic Islands.

Education Department Launches Program to Support Teachers in Finding Housing in Ibiza and Formentera
A housing database will be created to link tenants and landlords, streamlining and simplifying the housing search process in a context where the real estate market is especially challenging.
This measure is part of a broader set of actions promoted by the Ministry of Education and Universities to address the housing challenges faced by teaching staff, particularly in hard-to-staff areas.
The program is also being implemented in Menorca, through the island’s Territorial Directorate of Education.
Hard-to-Staff and Very Hard-to-Staff Allowances
In August 2024, the President of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Margalida Prohens, chaired the Education Sector Board, where the basis for allowances for hard-to-staff and very hard-to-staff positions for public school teachers was established.
Under this measure, the Ministry classified all positions on the island of Formentera as very hard to staff, along with positions in Ibiza and Menorca that, despite being posted for 14 calendar days in the substitute teacher allocation process, remained unfilled. Teachers in these roles received a monthly supplement of €300 during the 2024–2025 academic year, which will increase to €400 starting in 2025–2026.
As for hard-to-staff positions, a new allowance will be introduced from the next school year:
- Teachers assigned to Ibiza will receive a monthly supplement of €200
- Those assigned to Menorca will receive €100 per month
These supplements reflect a significant financial effort by the Government of the Balearic Islands to improve the purchasing power of relocated teachers and to help them access decent and stable housing.
The measure represents an investment of over €18 million, benefiting approximately 3,700 teachers throughout the Balearic Islands.
