The Inca City Council continues to implement measures to adapt the city to the effects of climate change and to make public spaces more livable during the hottest months of the year. As part of this effort, a plan has been launched to install pergolas and shading elements in various parts of the municipality.
“We want Inca to be a city that rises to new environmental challenges and puts people at the center. Installing pergolas is a simple but highly effective measure to make public spaces more pleasant and sustainable, contributing to the well-being of the community,” said Inca Mayor Virgilio Moreno.
Specifically, metal pergolas will soon be installed in Lompoc Square and in the new public space located on Avinguda d’Alcúdia, which will be named Plaça Antoni Pons Sastre in memory of the former mayor of Inca. At the same time, as in previous summers, a temporary pergola will be placed in the Covered Market Square, providing shade over the central area. It’s worth noting that a project is already being drafted to install a permanent pergola in this space—one that will blend into the surroundings and offer lasting improvements to the comfort of this highly frequented area.

Additionally, the City Council of the Raiguer capital is exploring various options to increase shaded areas in Mallorca Square and to upgrade existing structures with more efficient solutions. Other proposals are also being assessed, including both fixed and mobile options, to expand shaded zones in other streets and central areas.
In parallel, the Inca City Council aims to extend this initiative to the municipality’s schools. For this reason, it has requested the Government of the Balearic Islands to consider installing pergolas in schoolyards and outdoor spaces at various educational centers in the city, with the goal of ensuring more comfortable conditions for students.
