The second phase of the project includes a new pumping station, sewer collectors, and land-based outfall, with an investment of over 5 million euros.

The action will adapt infrastructure to the municipality’s growth and improve the efficiency of the wastewater treatment system.

The Consell de Govern has authorised the Balearic Water and Environmental Quality Agency (ABAQUA) to approve the necessary expenditure to launch the tender process for the second phase of the expansion and improvement project of Andratx’s sanitation and wastewater treatment system. This phase includes the construction of a new pumping station (EBAR), a network of sewer collectors, and a land-based outfall.

The projected investment amounts to €5,012,967.91 (VAT included) and will be distributed over the 2025, 2026, and 2027 fiscal years, charged to the Agency’s budget. The action is part of the current agreement between ABAQUA and the Andratx Town Council, originally signed in 1992 and renewed in 2020, under which the Agency manages the municipality’s general sanitation system.

Investment Authorised to Complete the Improvement of Andratx’s Sanitation System

The improvement project for the Andratx WWTP (wastewater treatment plant) was structured in two phases to facilitate its technical and financial execution. The first phase, focused on expanding and upgrading the treatment facilities, was completed in 2019. The second phase—now in an advanced stage of administrative processing—will complete the system with a new pumping station to more efficiently transport wastewater to the plant, a collector network designed to accommodate the municipality’s urban and seasonal growth, and a land-based outfall to ensure the proper conveyance of treated water to its final discharge or reuse point.

This initiative modernises and strengthens the entire infrastructure serving Andratx, improving both the energy efficiency of the system and the environmental protection of the coastal area. The aim is to adapt existing infrastructure to the town’s growth, enhance the efficiency of wastewater treatment, and ensure a more sustainable management of the water cycle, while also reinforcing protection of the natural and coastal environment.
