It is aimed at non-profit organisations that distribute cards for purchasing food and hygiene products
Since December 2023, the Ministry of Families and Social Affairs has allocated €7 million to calls for organisations carrying out food-related projects.
The Ministry of Families and Social Affairs has launched a grant program with a maximum amount of €3,150,000 for non-profit organisations to implement the “FSE+ Basic Material Assistance Program“, commonly known as the food card initiative. The program is co-financed by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) and forms part of Spain’s investment in employment and growth (Basic Program) for the year 2025.

The Ministry of Families and Social Affairs Announces a €3.1 Million Food Card Grant
The grant will fund the provision and distribution of cards for purchasing food, hygiene products, and other basic material assistance items. These cards can be used in various food stores across the four Balearic Islands. According to the resolution published today in the BOIB (Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands), the final beneficiaries of the aid will be families with dependent children.
“With this call,” said Marina Fiscaletti, Director General of Social Affairs, “we are taking another step to ensure food reaches everyone who needs it,” Fiscaletti noted that these three million euros are in addition to the funds already allocated by the Directorate General of Social Affairs, totaling €7 million, aimed at ensuring that food reaches all people in need, not just those with dependent children, which is the eligibility criterion set by the Ministry.
Around €7 million in food aid over two years
Since December 2023, including this latest call, the Ministry of Families and Social Affairs has allocated €7 million to funding opportunities for organisations involved in food distribution projects. These grants aim to reach individuals who are not eligible for the food card program because they do not have dependent children.
Last year, the Ministry awarded €2,295,000 in grants to organisations that manage food distribution, food banks, and soup kitchens. Of that amount, €1,159,000 came from the 0.7% tax allocation from income and corporate tax, and €1,136,000 from the Government’s budget.
These aids, destined for the years 2024 and 2025, are in addition to the €1.6 million approved in December 2023, also intended for implementation until 2025.
