President Galmés Conveys the Consell’s Support to the Mayor of Palma for the City’s Candidacy as European Capital of Culture 2031
The island’s president emphasized that “Palma is a city that breathes culture in every corner. Thanks to its significant historical legacy, but also because of the contemporary creativity that propels it into the future.”
“This candidacy is a unique opportunity to show the world the potential of Palma and Mallorca, to reinforce our commitment to creativity and innovation, and to make culture an economic driver for the city. Palma 2031 is a collective endeavor that involves all of us and that has the firm support of the Consell de Mallorca,” he stated.
For his part, the mayor highlighted that the project “does not belong solely to Palma or to an institution like the City Council, but must be considered a collective milestone in which all administrations, organizations, productive sectors, and civic associations must feel fully involved.”
In this regard, Martínez Llabrés praised the expressions of support, noting that they are “essential to successfully steer a project aimed at transforming Palma into a great European capital through culture, innovation, heritage, and other key elements that shape a modern, sustainable, and prosperous urban environment.”
Regarding the Consell de Mallorca’s endorsement, the mayor also emphasized that over the first two years of the current legislature, “the government led by Llorenç Galmés has demonstrated its commitment and involvement with Palma in many ways, both through investments under the Capitality Law and through significant actions such as this endorsement of the Palma 2031 project.”
