Approval of €7.5M Transfer to the Health Department to Fund Projects Through the Balearic Islands’ Insularity Compensation Funds

The Consell de Govern has approved the transfer of €7.5 million to the Balearic Health Service (Servei de Salut) to finance projects charged to the 2025 insularity compensation funds.

The projects to be funded with this additional budget include:

  • Waste management from the demolition works at Son Dureta Hospital, with an allocation of €2,033,526.40
  • The hybrid operating room at Son Espases University Hospital, with an allocation of €1,929,447.17
  • Electromedical equipment, technical equipment, and the adaptation of care spaces in the Health Service’s hospitals, with an allocation of €3,628,501.43

The insularity compensation factor is regulated by Royal Decree-Law 4/2019, of February 22, which governs the Special Regime of the Balearic Islands. According to this law, a dedicated allocation must be included annually in the State’s general budget to compensate for the costs derived from the Balearic Islands’ insular status.
