New Call for Scientific Research Project Grants Approved, Valued at €3.9 Million

The main objective of the program is to fund new scientific and technological research projects that are relevant, ambitious, have high socioeconomic impact, and clear international potential. The initiative promotes synergies and multidisciplinary research, encouraging the creation of scientific and technological knowledge that drives economic and social development, improves citizens’ quality of life, addresses major global challenges, and fosters a more critical and informed society.

The call will be processed through the advance expenditure procedure for the 2025 fiscal year and includes upfront payments of up to 84.6% of the total amount of the grants, to ensure viability and efficiency in the execution of the projects. Funding will be distributed over four annual instalments:

  • €1.3 million in both 2026 and 2027,
  • €700,000 in 2028, and
  • €600,000 in 2029.

In addition to the upfront payment, the call includes a new priority funding line of up to €1.5 million for projects led by young researchers.

With this new funding program, the Government of the Balearic Islands reaffirms its commitment to promoting research as a key driver for social and economic development, to reach at least 2% of the annual budget invested in science, technology, and innovation by the year 2030, in line with the objectives set by Law 7/2022, of August 5, on science, technology, and innovation in the Balearic Islands.
