Minister Antoni Vera and Mayor Virgilio Moreno sign a collaboration agreement to allow the City Council to use the museum’s facilities
The Minister of Education and Universities, Antoni Vera, and the Mayor of Inca, Virgilio Moreno, have formalised a new institutional collaboration agreement that will allow the Ajuntament d’Inca to use part of the facilities of the Museu de l’Educació de les Illes Balears for cultural activities compatible with the museum’s purpose.
The agreement, which will be valid for four years with the option for extension, stipulates that the City Council may utilise the multipurpose room, the temporary exhibition hall, and the courtyard—subject to availability—for cultural activities that align with the museum’s educational mission. In turn, the Ministry commits to making these spaces available in optimal conditions and ensuring access with adequate advance notice. There are no financial obligations for either party, and compliance will be overseen by a joint commission composed of representatives from both institutions.

Memory, School, and Future: The Museu de l’Educació de les Illes Balears Opens Its Doors
This agreement marks the latest milestone in a long journey that began in 2001, when the Arxiu i Museu de l’Educació de les Illes Balears was created by decree. Following its early stages at the Centre de Professors d’Inca, and through several phases of planning, restoration, and adaptation—completed at the end of 2024—the museum is now scheduled to open in September 2025 officially. The museographic project, promoted by the Ministry of Education and Universities with support from IBISEC, reflects a sustained commitment to valuing the Balearic Islands’ educational heritage and transforming it into a training tool for the future. Currently, the museum is open for individual visits, with guided school and group tours set to begin in September.
Located in Pavilion 7 of the General Luque barracks, a site granted by the Inca City Council, the Museu de l’Educació offers a modern and ambitious museographic proposal. The visit includes a welcoming area with historical context and a permanent exhibition featuring vintage school furniture and educational materials.
Additionally, the museum houses a specialised library with over 8,000 volumes, a room for rotating exhibitions (showcasing current content on folktales, art, and education), and a multipurpose hall for conferences, workshops, and debates. All of these features have been designed to offer a transformative educational experience, open to schools, teachers, researchers, and the wider public.
Through this institutional collaboration, the museum strengthens its public service role and positions itself as a pedagogical and cultural benchmark for society. Schools—from all educational levels—and interested organisations will be able to book group visits and access practical information via the museum’s official website.
Finally, this agreement highlights a shared commitment to preserving educational heritage, promoting critical thinking, and providing spaces that connect the past with the challenges of the present and future.
