This morning, the President of the Consell, Llorenç GalmĂ©s, together with the Minister for Families, Social Welfare, and Dependency Care of the Balearic Government, Sandra Fernández, the Minister of Social Welfare and President of IMAS, Guillermo Sánchez, and the Vice President of IMAS, Magdalena GarcĂa Gual, visited the facilities to review the progress of the renovations. These works will enable the creation of 42 new residential places designed in line with the person-centred care model.
“This project clearly demonstrates our commitment to high-quality public residential care. We are delivering a profound transformation that puts people at the center and ensures the efficient management of European funds,” said Llorenç Galmés.
The project refurbishes the existing space to adapt it to smaller living units, with more individual rooms and communal spaces designed to promote autonomy, comfort, and emotional well-being for the elderly.
“This new concept was already successfully implemented on the ninth floor of the same residence and now serves as a model for the future of public care in Mallorca,” added the president.
Guillermo Sánchez, President of IMAS, highlighted the importance of the intervention:
“With this renovation, we’re not only increasing capacity but also improving quality of life for the elderly who will live here. We remain committed to strengthening public residential services and ensuring dignified, safe, and personalized care.”

The renovation of the 8th floor of the IMAS-managed residence has a planned execution period of 18 months and was awarded to the company TECOPSA for €4,079,963.57 (VAT included). The project aims to modernise and transform the space to ensure person-centred care, improving accessibility, comfort, sustainability, and energy efficiency.
Key improvements include:
- Reconfiguration of rooms: from 44 to 34 (26 single rooms and 8 double rooms), all with adapted bathrooms and space for assisted mobility.
- Integration of communal areas on the same floor: dining room, lounge, geriatric bathroom, nurse station, storage, and laundry, all designed to enhance proximity and resident independence.
The renovation also includes:
- Full air conditioning of the floor
- Ventilation systems with air quality control
- Efficient smart lighting
- Oxygen and vacuum outlets in rooms
- Nurse call systems with intercom, exit monitoring systems
- Upgraded fire protection, including automatic detection and extinguishing systems
Additionally, a new oxygen tank will be built next to the service road at the northwest end of the property, enhancing the safety and efficiency of the facility’s healthcare infrastructure.
This project reflects the joint commitment of the Consell de Mallorca and IMAS to reinforce the public social care system, promoting a new residential model for the elderly based on dignity, quality care, and accessible, welcoming environments.
The intervention adds to other actions launched this legislative term to expand and improve the public network of residential places. In the last two years, around 110 new or renovated public places have been made available through:
- The opening of the final module at Son Caulelles Residence in MarratxĂ
- The launch of the Miquel Mir Residence in Inca
- The acquisition of the Hermanitas de los Pobres building in Palma
- The imminent renovation of Module D of the Llar d’Ancians, soon to be tendered
