During her remarks, the president emphasised that improving public infrastructure is a priority for her administration and highlighted that the construction of the new school responds to a long-standing demand from the local educational community.

The new centre, scheduled to open for the 2027–2028 academic year, will feature 16 compulsory secondary education (ESO) units distributed across four class lines and will have capacity for 480 students. In addition, it will include eight places in a UEECO classroom (Special Education Unit within an Ordinary School).

The building, with a total area of 5,000 square meters, will comprise a ground floor and two upper floors. Classrooms and teaching spaces will be located in the main structure, while the gymnasium and changing rooms will be housed in a perpendicular wing connected by a covered walkway. The project has an execution timeline of 19 months and a total investment of €11,360,382.90.

With the opening of this new school, the current overcrowding at IES s’Arenal will be alleviated. That school is also set to undergo a comprehensive renovation. In parallel, the Educational Infrastructure Plan includes the construction of a new teaching building to separate the Integrated Vocational Training Centre (CIFP) Pere de Son Gall, which currently shares facilities with IES Llucmajor. The existing building will also be renovated.

For the municipality’s nursery and primary schools, the plan foresees improvements, renovations, or maintenance work across all facilities.

These initiatives form part of Illes en Transformació, a strategic plan driven by the Government of the Balearic Islands to modernize and expand public facilities through coordinated and sustained action in public works and essential infrastructure.

With a total investment of €3.8 billion, the plan represents a firm commitment to strengthening and expanding the public infrastructure network across the Balearic Islands.
