Recommendations from Emergency Services
At home:
- Secure doors and windows.
- Stay on upper floors.
- Remove objects from outside that could be swept away by water.
- Store valuables, medications, documents, food, drinking water, and hazardous products in elevated places.
- Avoid staying in garages or basements.
- If water enters your home, disconnect electricity from the main switch.
Outdoors:
- Stay away from streams, rivers, and flood-prone areas.
- In urban areas, seek shelter in a secure building.
- Do not walk through areas with running water; even shallow currents can sweep you away.
On the road:
- Avoid driving unless strictly necessary.
- If you must drive, reduce speed and increase the safety distance; prioritise main roads and highways.
- In case of low visibility, stop the vehicle and signal your position.
- Do not cross flooded areas; just 30 cm of water can make vehicles float.
- If the car begins to float, exit immediately through a door or window.
- If the vehicle stalls, abandon it and head to higher ground.
- Keep your phone charged and the fuel tank full.
- Do not park on bridges, sidewalks, or at stream outlets.
