1,175 neck flaps delivered to protect construction, lifeguard, and urban cleaning workers

The Department of Labour, Public Service and Social Dialogue, through the Balearic Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IBASSAL), has delivered 1,175 neck flaps to the Balearic Association of Builders, the Directorate General of Emergencies, and the companies Emaya, Sóller 2010, and Calvià 2000.

The objective is for these neck flaps to be distributed among construction workers, lifeguards, and urban cleaning staff.

The neck flap is a piece of fabric compatible with safety helmets that protects the neck area from solar radiation and, when pre-moistened, helps relieve the sensation of heat and keeps the neck cool. IBASSAL has allocated a budget of €4,900 for the purchase of these accessories.

During the handover ceremony, the Minister of Labour, Public Service and Social Dialogue, Catalina Cabrer, emphasised that one of her main goals is “to ensure the well-being of workers, especially during days when temperatures soar.”

This is the first time such an initiative has been implemented, and IBASSAL Director Óscar Paz announced that next year a new campaign will be launched to mitigate the effects of high temperatures, likely in collaboration with the Department of the Presidency.

“Protect Yourself from Heatstroke” Information Campaign

IBASSAL launched a prevention and awareness campaign a month ago to address problems caused by high temperatures, aimed at companies and workers, and it will run throughout the summer season.

Under the slogan “Protegeix-te dels cops de calor” (Protect yourself from heatstroke), the campaign seeks to strengthen awareness and protection for outdoor workers during the summer months, reminding them of the importance of safeguarding themselves against potential heatstroke and dehydration.

This campaign is visible across all Mallorca Rail Service (SFM) stations, at Palma’s Intermodal Station, and on more than 40 buses operating throughout the islands.
