The president of the Island Council of Ibiza, Vicent Marí, and the second vice president and Minister of the Presidency, Government Action Coordination and Local Cooperation, Antònia Maria Estarellas, have today signed an agreement by which the Consell of Ibiza transfers, for 20 years, the building No. 304 of the Parc Insular de Serveis de Sa Coma to the public enterprise Emergency Management of the Balearic Islands (GEIB) to establish a new operational headquarters for emergency management in the islands of Ibiza and Formentera. This agreement will provide Ibiza with a stable and functional operational centre for emergency management and coordination, which will also reinforce the service in Formentera.

The Consell of Ibiza transfers a Sa Coma building to the Government to house a new emergency coordination centre
As Minister Estarellas explained, until now the island of Ibiza only had a shared space of about 70 m², located in another building in the former military barracks of Sa Coma. However, the growing needs arising from Ibiza’s insular nature and its territorial and population complexity made it necessary to have a new, larger, and better-adapted facility.
With this transfer, a new 386.40 m² building will be available, housing strategic supra-municipal facilities to respond to the current needs of the larger Pityusic island. Estarellas emphasised that this project represents “a turning point” in the capacity to respond to emergencies in Ibiza and Formentera, ensuring an efficient, coordinated, and immediate response to any critical situation.
The president of the Consell of Ibiza, Vicent Marí, highly praised this agreement, which, through institutional collaboration with the Balearic Government, will allow Ibiza and also Formentera to “expand emergency services and resources to provide fast and effective responses.”
The GEIB will undertake the rehabilitation and adaptation of the building, as well as the necessary works to tailor it to the specific emergency management functions, subject to authorisation by the Island Council. Planned improvements include rooms with bathrooms for staff deployed in emergencies, changing areas, storage facilities, a restroom, offices for GEIB personnel, a coordination and crisis room, and an outdoor canopy for emergency vehicles.
