The Municipal Transport Company of Palma will receive € 12 million to renew its fleet with electric vehicles.

The Eivissa World Heritage Consortium will carry out the rehabilitation works on the Es Calvari path with one million euros from the ITS fund.

The Consell de Govern today approved a modification to the Agreement of 15 November 2024 regarding two projects financed by the fund aimed at promoting sustainable tourism (ITS): the project to renew the fleet with electric vehicles (ITS 2425-082) and the project to enhance and rehabilitate infrastructures and the surface of the Es Calvari path in Eivissa (ITS 2425-104).

Boost to Sustainable Mobility in Palma and Infrastructure Improvements in Eivissa with ITS Funding

This modification responds to the identification of errors in the designation of the entities responsible for implementing the projects. According to the updated documentation:

  • The ITS 2425-082 project, for renewing the fleet with electric vehicles, will be executed by the Municipal Urban Transport Company of Palma, SA, and not by the Palma City Council, as previously indicated. The ITS fund will maintain its financing at €12,000,000.00, representing 82.64% of the total project cost. The remaining 17.36% will be covered by the municipal company’s own funds.
  • The ITS 2425-104 project, for the enhancement and rehabilitation of infrastructures on the Es Calvari path (Eivissa), will be carried out by the Eivissa World Heritage Consortium and not by the Eivissa City Council. The ITS fund will finance €1,000,000.00, representing 39.29% of the total cost. The Consortium will contribute the remaining €1,545,232.92 (60.71%).

This modification has been promoted by the Tourism Strategy Agency of the Balearic Islands (AETIB), the entity responsible for managing the ITS fund, and complies with the provisions of Article 19 of Law 2/2016 of 30 March, regarding the tax on tourist stays in the Balearic Islands and measures to promote sustainable tourism.

Under Decree 35/2016 of 23 June, the Plenary of the Sustainable Tourism Promotion Commission will be informed of this modification, which will also be published in the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands (BOIB).

With this action, the Government reaffirms its commitment to the rigorous and transparent management of funds aimed at promoting a more sustainable tourism model that respects the territory.
