International Tourist Spending in Spain Reaches €59.6 Billion by June, Up 7.5% from 2024

Spain continues to break tourism records. During the first six months of 2025, international visitors spent €59.6 billion, marking a 7.5% increase compared to the same period last year, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INE).

Over the same period, 44.5 million foreign tourists visited the country, 4.7% more than in 2024. While arrivals have shown moderate growth in recent months, spending continues to rise at a faster pace, confirming the shift towards higher-value tourism.

Top Source Markets and Destinations

The United Kingdom remains the leading market in terms of total spending, accounting for 17.6% of the total, followed by Germany (12.3%) and France (7.9%). Among autonomous communities, the Canary Islands lead with 19.9% of total expenditure, followed by Catalonia (17.7%) and the Community of Madrid (15.3%).

In terms of arrivals, the UK also tops the list with more than 8.9 million visitors in the first half of the year, a 5.2% increase compared to 2024. Germany follows with 5.7 million (+3%) and France with 5.6 million (+3.1%).

June Figures: Spending Outpaces Arrivals

In June 2025, Spain welcomed around 9.5 million international tourists, who spent over €13.03 billion. Compared to June 2024, this represents a 5.5% rise in spending and a 1.9% increase in arrivals.

Average expenditure per tourist stood at €1,376 (+3.5% year-on-year), while daily average spending reached €209 (+6.5%). Most travellers stayed between four and seven nights.

Portugal and the Balearic Islands Stand Out

The Portuguese market once again stood out in June, recording an 11.6% year-on-year increase with over 327,000 visitors. As for destinations, the Balearic Islands were the top choice, accounting for 23.9% of all tourists, followed by Catalonia (21.1%) and Andalusia (15%).

Tourist spending was also concentrated in these regions: Balearic Islands (21.7% of total), Catalonia (19.8%) and Andalusia (14.7%). Andalusia posted the largest growth in spending among them, with a 9.4% year-on-year increase.
