The Second Vice President and Minister of Environment, Rural Affairs and Sports, Pedro Bestard, visited today the construction site of the new climbing wall at the Sant Ferran Sports Complex in Palma, which is now entering its final phase. The facility will feature two separate areas —one for speed and another for lead climbing— and will be the first in Mallorca to be officially approved for competitions.
Bestard announced that the final assembly will take place this August and the work will be completed by the end of the summer. “These facilities will expand the public climbing offer on the island and allow us to host national and international competitions,” he stated.

Opening Planned for 2026
The Island Sports Directorate plans to begin promoting the facility to climbing clubs and federations in Mallorca during the last quarter of this year. In 2026, the climbing wall will open to the general public, offering introductory activities for schoolchildren and groups linked to the DIE, as well as training sessions and competitions organised by the Balearic Federation of Mountaineering and Climbing (FBME).
Technical Features and Budget
The speed wall will be 15 meters high with a 5-degree incline, while the lead wall will also stand 15 meters tall with a 7-meter overhang. The project represents an investment of €600,000.
Currently, there are around one hundred federated climbing clubs in Mallorca, most of which compete off the island. With this new facility, they will be able to do so locally, joining the only two other climbing walls of similar characteristics in Spain, located in Sant Cugat and Sierra Nevada.
