SFM Reduces Special Train Services for the “Much” Festival in Sineu This Monday Due to Works at Verge de Lluc

The railway company will operate one additional train and deploy metro units with greater capacity.

Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca (SFM) has announced that it will not be able to operate the usual special reinforcement train services for the “Mucada” festival in Sineu this Monday, August 11, due to ongoing construction works on the overpass near Verge de Lluc station. These works have forced the company to reduce frequencies, making it impossible to add more trains, particularly during the first two weeks of August.

The construction, located on Carrer del Greco in Palma, began last week and has temporarily restricted rail traffic between Son Fuster and Marratxí industrial estate stations to a single track (instead of the usual two — one in each direction). This disruption affects the entire rail network and has caused service alterations throughout August.

SFM Reduces Special Train Services

As a result, SFM has been operating revised summer schedules since Tuesday, August 5, through Sunday, August 17. During these two weeks, weekday services follow the weekend timetable, with the addition of three early-morning trains to handle peak commuter demand.

This decision was made after experiencing delays and cancellations last Monday and Friday. The goal is to offer a more reliable and punctual service under current conditions and minimise inconvenience to passengers.

Due to these limitations, SFM will not be able to provide the special services typically arranged in recent years for the Much Festival in Sineu, as it is physically impossible to operate additional trains simultaneously between Palma, Inca, and Manacor.

Instead, this Monday, regular service will run with one train per hour in each direction — both to and from Palma or Manacor and departing from Sineu. Additionally, one reinforcement train will be added. The last trains from Sineu will depart at:

  • 18:42 h
  • 19:42 h
  • 20:42 h
  • Special train at 21:00 h
  • 21:42 h
  • 22:42 h

To manage demand, metro units with greater capacity will also be deployed.

Recommendations to Passengers

The Balearic Government, SFM, and the Sineu Town Hall advise:

  • Seeking alternative means of transport if possible.
  • Staggering departures from Sineu to avoid last-minute crowding.
  • Not waiting for the last trains of the day, especially considering the limited capacity at Sineu station.

These recommendations follow a coordination meeting between SFM, the Sineu City Council, and the Civil Guard, aimed at ensuring safe and orderly travel during the festival under current constraints.
