The Diocese and the Consell de Mallorca are jointly promoting the cultural dissemination of the 2025 Feast of the Assumption through a comprehensive plan aimed at enhancing historical and heritage knowledge about the “beds of the Virgin Mary” via publications, videos, and island-wide activities.
The initiative emphasises the importance of recognising the cultural and religious significance of the monuments dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary—commonly known as the “beds of the Virgin.” As part of this effort, the 2025 plan will publish historical-artistic descriptions to serve as guides for visitors and help preserve and spread this heritage.

The Diocese and the Consell de Mallorca Promote Cultural Dissemination of the 2025 Feast of the Assumption
This project is funded by the Joint Commission of the Consell de Mallorca and the Diocese of Mallorca for historical heritage, and is supported by institutions such as the City Council of Palma, the Museum of Mallorca, the Cathedral of Mallorca, ARCA, and the Friends of Heritage Foundation. The initiative is coordinated by Maiorica Sacra (Diocese of Mallorca) and the Consell de Mallorca.
New in 2025
One of the highlights this year is a new informative video created by Joan Barceló, a well-known educator and former weather presenter, who explores the intangible heritage connected to the Assumption through popular linguistic expressions. This video demonstrates the plan’s commitment to producing short and in-depth audiovisual materials to showcase various aspects of the August celebration.
2025 Assumption Overview
The dissemination plan includes a total of 80 monuments across Mallorca, showing stable figures in recent years following the post-pandemic rise. In Palma, 23 monuments have been recorded (20 in both 2024 and 2023, and 17 in 2022), while in the Part Forana, 57 have been documented (58 in 2024, 56 in 2023, and 50 in 2022).
The slight fluctuations reflect the dynamics of the dissemination efforts and challenges faced by some small parishes and convents in organizing the displays. Notable developments include the complete restoration of the Sant Jaume (Palma) Assumption monument, while the Bed of the Conception (Palma) will only be partially displayed due to conservation work. The displays at Sant Jeroni and Santa Magdalena monasteries are now firmly established, and the image at Santa Teresa de Jesús convent is newly included. Also added this year are two newer pieces: the Dead Virgin Mary at Our Lady of the Rosary (Son Cladera) and the Monti-sion school’s version, made possible through current inventory efforts.
