International Tourist Spending in Spain Exceeds €59.6 Billion in First Half of 2025, Up 7.5%

Spain welcomed over 44.5 million international tourists in the first six months of 2025, a 4.7% increase compared to the same period in 2024, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INE). During this period, total spending by foreign visitors reached €59.622 billion, marking a 7.5% year-on-year rise.

Spending continues to grow faster than arrivals, reflecting an upward trend in average visitor expenditure. The UK was the top source market for spending (17.6% of the total), followed by Germany (12.3%) and France (7.9%). The regions with the highest accumulated spending were the Canary Islands (19.9%), Catalonia (17.7%), and Madrid (15.3%).

In terms of arrivals, the UK led with over 8.9 million visitors (+5.2%), followed by Germany (5.7 million, +3%) and France (5.6 million, +3.1%).

June: More spending, more visitors
In June alone, Spain received nearly 9.5 million international tourists, who spent a total of €13.035 billion (+5.5% year-on-year). Visitor numbers rose by 1.9%. Average spending per person reached €1,376 (+3.5%), while daily spending averaged €209 (+6.5%).

The most common length of stay was between four and seven nights, with nearly 4.8 million tourists (+2.4%).

By source markets, the UK remained the largest in June, with 2.1 million visitors and €2.604 billion in spending (+4.9%). Germany sent 1.22 million tourists (+7.8%) who spent €1.499 billion (+9.2%). France saw a slight drop of 0.5% in arrivals but a 12.9% increase in spending (€939 million). Portugal stood out with an 11.6% rise in arrivals (327,289).

By destinations, the Balearic Islands were the top choice in June (23.9% of all visitors), attracting 2.26 million tourists (+3%), followed by Catalonia (21.1%) and Andalusia (15%). In terms of spending, the Balearics led with €2.83 billion (+2.9%), Catalonia recorded €2.579 billion (+1.9%), and Andalusia reached €1.912 billion (+9.4%).
