The Balearic Institute of Energy (IBE), under the Ministry of Business, Self-Employment and Energy, has opened eight calls to take part in new shared photovoltaic self-consumption installations across various municipalities in Mallorca and Menorca. Applications can be submitted until September 19.

With a combined capacity of 503 kW, these projects will supply renewable energy to 224 households, 57 small and medium-sized enterprises, and several public facilities, preventing the emission of approximately 298 tonnes of CO₂ each year.

This model allows households, shops, and businesses to access solar energy without installing panels or making any initial investment. The installations are located in Caimari, Llubí, Bunyola, Palma (Es Pil·larí), Porreres, Andratx, Palmayola, and Es Castell (Menorca).

Each household may receive up to 1 kW of power, while businesses may access up to 3 kW (or 1 kW for low consumption). For an annual fee of €100 per assigned kW, participants will receive renewable energy with surplus compensation, automatically reflected in their electricity bill.

Required documentation to participate

  • Application for joining the shared self-consumption system
  • SEPA direct debit order
  • Copy of ID card (DNI/NIE) or tax number (NIF), plus legal representation documents for legal entities
  • Electricity bill of the supply point
  • Property cadastral record
  • Proof of ownership of the declared bank account
  • Proof of vulnerable household status or social bonus beneficiary (if applicable)

Currently, 1,062 people in the Balearic Islands benefit from shared self-consumption, 162 more are registered for projects soon to be operational, and 67 are participating in ongoing open calls.
