SFM launches the photo contest

The competition, which aims to showcase historical and contemporary images of Mallorca’s railway, will accept submissions from this week until October 31. The contest is divided into three categories:

  • Origins and railway tradition: photographs taken between 1870 and 1964.
  • Transition and modernisation: photographs taken between 1965 and 2024.
  • Present day: photographs taken in 2025.

Participants may submit up to three photographs in the historical categories and one photograph in the present-day category. The jury will award three prizes per category, in addition to a public prize in each category, which will be decided by online voting at www.150aniversarisfm.com.

The first prize in each category includes a trip to Galicia for two people, with accommodation and a scenic ride on a tourist train.

A tribute to 150 years of railway history

Last February 24 marked 150 years since the first train in Mallorca entered service, connecting Palma and Inca. To celebrate this milestone, SFM is organizing various commemorative events throughout the year to highlight the value of Mallorca’s railway heritage and engage the public in its history.

The photographs submitted will become part of the SFM photographic archive, ensuring they are preserved according to archival standards and remain as a legacy for future generations.
