For the first time, employment in tourism-related activities has exceeded 3 million before the high season. Between April and June 2025, the sector recorded 3,024,347 workers, a 2% increase compared to the same period in 2024, according to Turespaña data.
Tourism accounted for 13.6% of total national employment, with an 8% unemployment rate in the sector, 1.2 points lower than last year.
The largest growth was seen in travel agencies (+8.7%) and passenger transport (+4.6%), while hospitality fell by 1.3% due to declines in accommodation (-3.5%) and food & beverage services (-0.5%).

Tourism Employment Surpasses 3 Million Before High Season
Salaried employees in tourism reached 2,578,949 (+4.2%), with 84.2% on permanent contracts and 75.2% working full-time. In contrast, self-employed workers fell by 9.3%, mainly in hospitality (-14.5%).
Regionally, Madrid (+8.3%) and Andalusia (+6.5%) posted the highest growth, while the Balearic Islands (-10.7%) and Valencia (-1.3%) saw declines.
