Government approves flu vaccine supply contracts for upcoming seasons

  • Batch 1: 211,000 doses for people under 65 at risk. Inactivated vaccines (split or surface antigen) containing 15 micrograms of haemagglutinin per strain. Budget: €1,316,640 (€642,720 in 2025 and €673,920 in 2026). Estimated value with extension: €2.8 million.
  • Batch 2: 280,000 doses for non-institutionalised people over 65. Inactivated vaccines with an adjuvant to enhance the immune response. Budget: €3,785,600 (€1,892,800 in 2025 and €1,892,800 in 2026). Estimated value with extension: €8 million.

The contract is part of the Spanish Ministry of Health’s Framework Agreement, to which the Balearic Islands have voluntarily adhered, covering vaccine procurement for the 2025-2026 to 2028-2029 campaigns.

The main goals of flu vaccination are to protect vulnerable groups, reduce morbidity and mortality, and lessen the strain on healthcare and social care systems. Due to the virus’s high mutation rate, annual vaccination is recommended for target populations.
