The Menorca Island Council has awarded Vodafone España SAU the contract to supply 2,175 smart water meters for €134,436.75 (€162,668.47 including VAT), within the framework of the Menorca Smart Island project and the Tourism Sustainability Plan in Destination.
Funded through Next Generation EU funds, these devices will be integrated into the island’s IoT platform and Geographic Information System, enabling real-time water consumption monitoring, leak detection, improved infrastructure planning, and more efficient use of water — a scarce and valuable resource.

The meters will be installed in mature tourist areas (urbanisations) as part of the project’s second phase, which will deploy a total of 3,555 sensors to improve the efficiency of services such as energy, transport, and public infrastructure.
The Councillor for Economy and General Services, Maria Antònia Taltavull, stressed that this is “one of the most important devices in the project” due to its direct link to sustainable water cycle management.
