The Consell de Mallorca has renewed its call for the Ministry of Culture to immediately respond to the request for the temporary loan of the Bous de Costitx, so that these emblematic Talayotic sculptures can be displayed at the Museum of Mallorca.
Antònia Roca, Vice President and Minister of Culture and Heritage, recalled that meetings were held with the Ministry in November 2023 and January 2025 to arrange the loan, but no reply has been received to date.

Consell de Mallorca Urges Ministry of Culture to Unlock Temporary Loan of the Bous de Costitx and the Museum of Mallorca’s Archaeology Project
As the Museum of Mallorca prepares to celebrate its 65th anniversary in 2026, the Consell is driving the redesign of its archaeology galleries. Roca insists that the Bous de Costitx should be included in this project, whose tender process remains stalled pending Ministry approval.
“We once again call on the Government of Spain to make the presence of the Bous de Costitx at the Museum of Mallorca possible and to avoid further delays in the tendering of the museum project. It is time to give a clear and positive response to a fair and legitimate request to dignify Mallorca’s heritage,” Roca stated.
These sculptures, originating from the Talayotic sanctuary of Son Corró and currently on display at the National Archaeological Museum, are key to understanding the island’s history. They were previously exhibited at the Museum of Mallorca between October and December 1995, during the exhibition The Talayotic Sanctuary of Costitx, One Hundred Years Later (1895–1995).
The Consell recalls that Law 16/1985 and Royal Decree 620/1987 support the temporary or permanent return of heritage assets to their places of origin, to promote visibility and preserve the memory of local communities.
