SFM delivers training on the train units sold to Kenya five years ago, now operating on Nairobi’s commuter lines
Technicians from Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca (SFM) have travelled to Nairobi (Kenya) to deliver a railway training program for mechanics and train drivers of the national operator Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC), following the sale of eleven train units by SFM to the company in 2020.
Over ten days, SFM’s workshop manager, a chief driver, and a specialist mechanic for the DMU CAF 6100 diesel units —currently in operation in Kenya— provided both theoretical and practical training to around forty KRC staff in driving and maintenance. The program also includes technical consultancy for the development of training materials.

SFM technicians travel to Kenya to provide training for mechanics and train drivers of the African country’s railway company
In March 2020, SFM sold eleven trains of this model to Kenya Railways Corporation for €9.6 million. The units were shipped to Nairobi and have since been operating on the capital’s commuter rail lines. As part of the deal, SFM also delivered an initial training program for KRC drivers and mechanics.
Later, in 2024, the Kenyan railway company commissioned a project to supply and commission equipment for its maintenance workshops, funded through the FIEM program of the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Trade and Enterprise, along with Fomento al Desarrollo del Comercio Internacional. At that time, KRC expressly requested SFM’s participation.
The public railway company of Mallorca was entrusted with providing technical assistance and training for the DMU CAF 6100 units. By late September, another SFM team is scheduled to return to Nairobi to deliver the same training program to additional Kenya Railways Corporation staff.
