The Consell de Mallorca raises the Ukrainian flag at La Misericòrdia as a show of solidarity with the Ukrainian people
With this gesture, the Consell de Mallorca expresses its solidarity with the Ukrainian people and emphasises the need for international organisations to continue working towards peace. In 2025, the institution has also allocated a total of €50,000, through the Mallorcan Fund for Solidarity, to support people affected by the war. These resources have been directed both to cooperation projects in Ukraine and to initiatives that facilitate temporary hosting in Mallorca.
In Ukraine, the support has taken the form of the purchase and distribution of food, hygiene products, and other essential materials according to the urgent needs of refugees, humanitarian assistance centres, and municipal reception centres for displaced persons in the municipalities of Khust and Chernivtsi. Likewise, the restoration of disused public buildings has been promoted to convert them into suitable temporary accommodations, including the rehabilitation of the first and second floors of two municipal buildings in Horinchovo, to provide safe reception spaces.
At the same time, the Consell collaborates with the initiative of the Associació Mallorquina d’Ajuda als Refugiats d’Ucraïna (Amar Ucraïna), which makes it possible for children living in war zones to spend the summer in Mallorca in a safe and supportive environment. This contributes both to their well-being and to strengthening ties of solidarity between the two peoples.
Through this action, the Consell de Mallorca reaffirms its commitment to peace, democracy, and human rights, as well as to international cooperation and humanitarian aid, and reiterates its closeness to all those who, far from their homeland, keep their traditions and cultural identity alive in a particularly meaningful moment for Ukraine.
