During the 2024-2025 academic year, the Institut Mallorquí d’Afers Socials (IMAS) has consolidated its position as a reference institution for hands-on training in the social and healthcare fields. A total of 86 students from vocational training programs and several Spanish universities completed internships across IMAS centres and services, fostering closer links between public administration, the education system, and the island’s social and economic fabric.

“IMAS not only provides care to citizens, it also helps prepare those who will sustain the future of social services,” said Guillermo Sánchez, Minister of Social Welfare and President of IMAS.

This progress has been driven by the implementation of a new internship protocol, developed by the Transversal Programs Section, which has standardised reception criteria, streamlined administrative procedures, and improved the evaluation of training outcomes.

Internships have covered a wide range of areas, from residential centres to child and family programs, services for people with disabilities, and initiatives promoting personal autonomy. This approach makes IMAS a genuine hub for learning and social innovation, enabling talent detection and continuous adaptation of work processes to emerging social challenges.

“We want students to experience their internships as a transformative journey and to find in IMAS an open institution that listens and innovates,” Sánchez added.

The Transversal Programs Section also plays a key role in scientific dissemination through Almenara, a biannual journal publishing research and experiences in the field of social services, available on the IMAS website.
