The Consell de Govern appoints Maria Joaquina Ferrer Matas as Director General of Coasts and Coastal Areas
A civil servant of the Autonomous Community since 1996, Ferrer has built an extensive career in the public sector, with more than 25 years of experience in administrative, legal, and management roles.
She holds a degree in Law from the University of the Balearic Islands and has complemented her training with specialised courses in administrative law, public procurement, economic management, and risk prevention, as well as in areas related to the coastal environment and climate change.
Throughout her career, she has participated in various programs and conferences on transparency, liability procedures, the impact of climate change on the coast, and innovative public management strategies, giving her a technical and multidisciplinary profile.
With this appointment, the Government strengthens the Directorate General of Coasts and Coastal Areas, a key department following the transfer of competences in coastal management to the Autonomous Community.
Among the priorities of this Directorate General are the planning of the maritime-terrestrial public domain, the environmental protection of the coast, the legal security of concession holders, and the drafting of the forthcoming Law on the Integrated Management and Planning of the Coastal Areas of the Balearic Islands.
