The Institut Mallorquí d’Afers Socials (IMAS) will resume its information sessions on adoption next Monday, September 1, aimed at individuals and families interested in beginning the adoption process.

Professionals from the IMAS Adoption Section organise these meetings throughout the year, every first and third Monday of the month, at 1:00 p.m., at the IMAS headquarters on General Riera Street, 67, in Palma. The sessions are open, and no prior registration is required.

During the meetings, participants receive clear and updated information on the adoption process, legal and administrative requirements, and the different stages involved. Families also receive guidance on what each stage entails, have their questions and concerns addressed personally, and are informed of the resources and support services that IMAS provides both before and after the adoption process is formalised.

IMAS to Resume Information Sessions on Adoption Next Monday

“At IMAS, we want to accompany families throughout the entire adoption journey, from the first information session to the post-adoption follow-up. Our priority is to ensure that every child can grow up in a stable, safe, and caring environment. For this reason, it is essential to provide support and resources to adoptive families,” stated Guillermo Sánchez, Minister of Social Welfare of the Consell de Mallorca and President of IMAS.

In addition to information sessions, the IMAS Adoption Section provides training sessions for families who decide to initiate the process and is also responsible for carrying out the psychosocial evaluation—an essential requirement to determine the suitability of prospective adoptive parents.

IMAS also offers professional support after the child joins the family, intending to ensure the success of the adoption and minimise risk factors that could hinder full integration into the family and society.

In 2024, IMAS finalised a total of 23 adoptions: 20 domestic and 3 international. This trend has continued into 2025.

With these figures, the island institution highlights the importance of continuing to promote policies that support adoption and provide guidance to families, ensuring every child’s right to grow up in a safe and stable family environment.
