The funds will be allocated to the maintenance and promotion of offices and initiatives for research and the promotion of the Catalan language at the UIB.
The Institut d’Estudis Baleàrics (IEB) has approved a resolution whereby its president, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Jaume Bauzà, grants a direct subsidy to the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) aimed at supporting and promoting various offices and projects related to linguistic content.

The amount of the subsidy, which until now stood at €110,000, has been increased to €272,000, to be distributed over the years 2025 and 2026.
This funding will strengthen and ensure continuity of key initiatives in the field of language and sociolinguistic research in the Balearic Islands, with the following allocation:
- €33,500 for the Onomastics Office
- €43,000 for the Sociolinguistics Documentation Centre of the Balearic Islands
- €33,500 for the Linguistic Advisory Office for the Media
- €18,500 for the Catalan language promotion project at the Faculty of Law
- €4,500 for the sociolinguistic analysis project across different faculties
- €3,000 for editorial projects of Edicions UIB (the university’s publishing service)
This is the first year in which the last three lines of funding —the Faculty of Law project, the sociolinguistic analysis project, and Edicions UIB— receive financial support from the IEB, marking a step forward in consolidating new initiatives.
With this allocation, the Balearic Government reaffirms its commitment to the defence, promotion, and study of the Catalan language, while also strengthening collaboration with the UIB in the areas of research and cultural dissemination.
