Spain has taken a decisive step in fulfilling its commitments to NATO, not only by contributing troops to Alliance missions but also by meeting the target of 2% of GDP allocated to Defence.
To achieve this, the Government has launched the Industrial and Technological Plan for Security and Defence, which in 2025 will have an initial investment of €10.471 billion.

Spain strengthens its NATO commitment with a major Defence investment
The plan will enhance the capabilities of the Armed Forces, boost dual-use technological development, and create highly skilled jobs, reinforcing the strength of Spain’s national defence industry.
The programmes under this initiative cover strategic areas identified as priorities by NATO, including: artificial intelligence and Big Data, robotics, quantum and information technologies, communications, space, biotechnology, advanced manufacturing, energy and propulsion systems.
These are high-impact, cross-cutting technologies, considered essential for collective security in an increasingly complex geopolitical environment.
