The number of housing permits in the Balearic Islands reached 2,161 in the first half of the year, a 42.3% increase compared to 2024, and the highest figure since 2008, according to the Economic Outlook report released in August. Mallorca alone recorded 1,573 permits, surpassing the totals for all islands in 2024. This rise anticipates a strong boost in housing construction.
Tourism also continues to perform strongly. Between January and June, the islands welcomed 7.9 million visitors (+3.2%), generating €8.74 billion (+6.1%). Average spending per visitor was €1,103, with daily spending reaching €193, up 4.4%.

Construction and tourism drive the Balearic economy in the first half of the year
The Balearic GDP grew by 3.4%, exceeding the Government’s forecast (2.7%), with Mallorca and the Pitiusas leading the way. Industrial production also rose by 5.4% year-on-year, one of the highest growth rates in Spain.
In the labour market, Social Security affiliation increased by 2.6% in July, totalling 655,966 workers. Inflation stood at 3.5%, above the national average of 2.7%.
