The Minimum Vital Income (IMV) continues to grow and has become a key tool in the fight against poverty in Spain. According to the latest Social Security data, in August 2025, the benefit reached 764,905 households, supporting a total of 2,335,553 people.
The average monthly payment per household is €516.78, which amounted to a total of €426 million in August.

Steady growth
Compared to August 2024, there are 115,462 more active benefits, representing a 17.8% increase. In terms of individuals, the program now covers 377,853 more people than a year ago, a growth of 19.3%.
The IMV shows a strong female profile: 67.8% of recipients (518,548) are women, and women also represent 53.5% of all beneficiaries (1,248,614).
Focus on children
Protecting children remains one of the IMV’s central objectives. In August, 959,891 children and adolescents received support, representing 41.1% of all beneficiaries. Over two-thirds of households receiving the benefit (68.7%) have children, including 130,945 single-parent families.
“The IMV has become a consolidated tool to provide families with stability, particularly children,” said Minister Elma Saiz.
The Child Support Supplement (CAPI) reached 535,235 households in August, with an average of €67.85 per child and €125.12 per household with children.
Five years of progress
Since its launch five years ago, the IMV has reached 3,221,358 people, including 1.4 million children (43.3% of the total). Overall, Social Security has allocated €16.63 billion to this benefit since its creation.
New early income review system
A key improvement this year is the dual income review system, which allows adjustments to be applied as early as May through data sharing with the Tax Agency. This update ensures families know sooner if their IMV will increase, decrease, or end, and reduces repayments when households achieve sufficient independent income.
“We want families to have certainty as early as possible and for the IMV to reflect their real needs,” said Minister Saiz.
This mechanism provides faster updates, ensuring more accurate and timely support for vulnerable families.
