“Dive into Your Emotions,” the new youth mental health program from the Consell, kicks off with the inspiring testimony of player Virginia Torrecilla

The president of the Consell, Llorenç Galmés, together with the island’s Youth Director, Carmen Ripoll, and Virginia Torrecilla herself, presented today this new educational series, which seeks to boost the emotional well-being of young people and create a space for reflection and debate on mental health. The goal is to establish an open and participatory forum where both speakers and attendees feel safe to understand, share, and reflect on mental health.

It will be a place where young people, families, and professionals can express themselves, hear real experiences, and access useful tools to face everyday emotional challenges.

The president highlighted the importance of “placing young people at the centre of the institution’s policies and finding mechanisms to improve their emotional health.” Mental health is a challenge we must confront, he emphasised, because “the numbers speak for themselves.” According to the 2023 Youth, Health and Well-being Barometer, “6 out of 10 young people admit to having experienced some kind of mental health problem in the past year.”

Meanwhile, the player stressed that “unfortunately, mental health problems affect many people, many families, even if we don’t always realise it. There is still a lot of work to do in this area. And what better way to do it than here, at home, with our people—helping in the best way possible so that tomorrow they have the tools to try to overcome mental health problems.”

The first session will take place at the Xesc Forteza Theater, with Torrecilla sharing her story of personal resilience after facing brain cancer away from home and her family. A unique and inspiring testimony, it serves as a reminder that mental health is just as important as physical health, and it aims to transmit to young people a message of hope, courage, and resilience.

This new series continues the program launched last year, initially aimed at parents, guardians, and professionals who support young people in their daily lives. Now, however, it takes a step further by opening directly to young people, making them the protagonists and providing them with practical resources to face the main mental health challenges.

The series will consist of nine monthly conferences at the Official College of Physicians of the Balearic Islands, at 6:30 p.m., with specialists and testimonies addressing the key challenges of youth mental health such as body image, tech-related disorders, or academic pressure.
