The Consell de Govern has approved an investment of €4 million for the Mallorca Institute of Social Affairs (IMAS) to enhance prevention, treatment, and social reintegration services for individuals struggling with addiction during the 2025–2028 period.
The agreement, signed with the Regional Ministry of Health, is part of the Balearic Islands’ Comprehensive Addiction Plan 2025–2032, which aims to provide a coordinated response to one of society’s most pressing challenges: addictive behaviours.

€4 million allocated to strengthen addiction prevention and care in Mallorca
A key innovation will be the introduction of a protocol for the detection and treatment of HIV and hepatitis C in residential centres managed by IMAS, in coordination with Mallorca’s hospitals.
The agreement also foresees the development of an early detection protocol for vulnerable minors, as well as methadone distribution programs, outpatient treatment via five Addiction Behaviour Units (UCAs), professional training, and community-based prevention initiatives.
To oversee compliance, a monitoring committee will be created with representatives from both IMAS and the Regional Ministry of Health.
