The emblematic Gothic building joins one of Palma’s most relevant cultural events with the exhibition “Paysage Miró. The Initial Force”

La Llotja de Palma will extend its opening hours this Saturday, September 20, until 11 p.m., on the occasion of Nit de l’Art 2025. The emblematic Gothic building thus joins one of Palma’s most important cultural events, offering visitors the chance to enjoy the exhibition “Paysage Miró. The Initial Force” during extended hours.

La Llotja de Palma is one of the most outstanding cultural spaces in the Balearic Islands for hosting contemporary art exhibitions, offering residents and visitors a unique opportunity to approach Joan Miró’s legacy within the framework of Nit de l’Art.

The exhibition brings together a selection of ten bronze works with dark patina created between 1940 and 1970, many of them produced in the Susse (Arcueil, France) and Bonvicini (Verona, Italy) foundries, with which Miró worked closely.

The sculptures on display —including the spectacular Oiseau lunaire, Oiseau solaire, Maternité, and Conque— reflect the artist’s interest in transforming natural objects and simple forms into figures of great symbolic strength, with references to the human body as well as to the vegetal, animal, and astral worlds.

The selection highlights Miró’s technical and conceptual process, as he approached sculpture with a profound understanding of the medium and a desire to create autonomous, hybrid, and meaningful forms. In this context, La Llotja de Palma becomes a space of dialogue between historic architecture and sculpture, emphasizing the physical, symbolic, and poetic dimension of Miró’s three-dimensional work.

“Paysage Miró. The Initial Force” is part of the large exhibition project “Paysage Miró”, which brings together four simultaneous exhibitions in four emblematic artistic spaces in the city: Es Baluard Museu, Fundació Miró Mallorca, Casal Solleric, and La Llotja de Palma. This project represents a historic and unprecedented alliance between the Government of the Balearic Islands, Palma City Council, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Es Baluard Museu, and Casal Solleric, with the collaboration of Successió Miró and Galeria Pelaires.
