The island institution and the company launch the second phase of their agreement, which will lead to the removal of thousands of listings from the website.

The Consell de Mallorca has reached an agreement with Airbnb to remove, starting mid-October, all listings on the platform that do not include a registration number. Both parties announced the decision this Thursday in Ibiza during the meeting of the Mesa contra el Intrusismo (Committee Against Illegal Practices).

This announcement marks the beginning of the second phase of the cooperation agreement reached months ago between the Consell de Mallorca and Airbnb. It will result in the removal of another wave of properties advertised irregularly on the company’s website, representing a decisive step in their joint effort to combat illegal tourist rentals on the island.

Specifically, the Tourism Department of the Consell de Mallorca, thanks to the analysis carried out in recent months, has identified thousands of listings that do not display a license number on the website.

It will not be necessary for the Consell de Mallorca to provide Airbnb with a list of these properties, since the company has committed to deactivating any listing on its platform that does not display the required registration number.

This measure represents a firm and unprecedented action to ensure that the online tourist offer operates legally and remains compatible with the protection of the territory and the quality of life of local residents. It complements measures already in place, such as the activation of the mandatory registration tool for new listings and the first wave of deactivations that took place months ago after being identified by the island authority.

The President of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, reiterated his commitment to the fight against illegal supply, stating: “This is the definitive step to eradicate it; there will be no truce. This agreement with Airbnb shows that public-private collaboration is the way to protect our tourism model, ensure compliance with regulations, and continue strengthening the quality of life of all Mallorca residents.”

“The elimination of all unlicensed listings starting mid-October is a forceful action that reinforces our goal of fostering coexistence on our island, for the benefit of the local community and all platform users,” Galmés added.
