Mateu Orfila Hospital has expanded its facilities dedicated to cancer care by adding a new room in the Day Hospital area. With this upgrade, the Oncology Service now has six consultation rooms instead of five, ensuring that each team member—four oncologists, the lead nurse, and the psycho-oncologist—has their own office.

The new, spacious and bright consultation room is assigned to the psycho-oncologist, who now provides both individual care and group sessions there. Throughout the year, workshops are organised for women undergoing breast cancer treatment and for patients living with advanced cancer, as well as a program for individuals with an ostomy. These small groups, with a maximum of eight participants, create an intimate setting for sharing experiences.

The offer also includes a 90-minute weekly online mindfulness workshop, followed by around twenty participants from October to May.

The Oncology Service also benefits from the support of an additional nutritionist and psycho-oncologist, thanks to agreements with the Balearic Islands Health Research Institute Foundation (IdISBa) and the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC). They provide consultations at both Mateu Orfila and health centres across Menorca.

Regarding activity, a fourth specialist joined the service in October 2024, leading to a 13.8% increase in activity. From January to mid-September 2025, the service has carried out 9,467 consultations, nearly 1,000 more than during the same period in 2024 (8,318).
