The Consorci de Transports de Mallorca (CTM) has started rolling out a new onboard audio announcement system across the TIB bus fleet to enhance accessibility and independence for people with visual impairments. The initiative was presented on Saturday during an event with ONCE, as part of the European Mobility Week.

Over half of the buses in the network are already equipped with this system, which automatically announces the next stop through speakers, and the plan is to extend it to the entire fleet within this year. The aim is to ensure that passengers with low vision or blindness can access travel information equally.

The technology enables clear and timely stop announcements, helping all passengers—regardless of their visual capacity—to travel with greater safety and confidence.

The presentation was attended by the Director General of Mobility of the Balearic Islands, Lorena del Valle, the ONCE Territorial President in the Balearic Islands, Alejandra Luque, CTM’s manager, Lluïsa Serra, and ONCE’s Head of Social Services, Jorge Díaz.

This measure is part of a broader plan for accessibility and social inclusion developed in collaboration with Fundación ONCE. It also includes improvements to public transport infrastructure in Mallorca, such as better ventilation at Palma’s Intermodal station, installation of new escalators, renovation of tactile paving, upgrades to public restrooms, and refurbishment of the passenger service and information office.
