The Son Pardo racetrack witnessed a truly historic moment for Balearic sport this Sunday. For the first time, a Mallorcan claimed victory in the prestigious Grand Prix des Baléares, as Antoni Frontera and his horse Felli Eleven crossed the finish line first.
The achievement comes only weeks after the Consell de Mallorca awarded Frontera the Medal of Honour and Gratitude of the Island for his remarkable career. With this triumph, he further cements his legendary status, already holding the record with seven wins in the Gran Premio Nacional.
The trophy was presented by Pedro Bestard, Second Vice President and Minister for Environment, Rural Affairs and Sports of the Consell de Mallorca, joined by Gaspar Oliver, President of the Mallorca Equestrian Sports Institute, and Juan Antonio Rosselló, President of the Balearic Trot Federation.

During the ceremony, Bestard emphasised the cultural value of trotting for Mallorca:
“This sport is part of our tradition and culture, and today’s race shows the enormous potential of the equestrian world on the island.”
The race, contested over 2,650 meters with autostart, was decided in a thrilling final stretch. Frontera and Felli Eleven surged ahead with a time of 1’14”6, narrowly beating Eclat de Gloire (driven by L. Garcia, 1’14”9) and Gaby des Vals (with J. Guelpa, 1’15”2).
The winning duo earned €11,500, part of the €25,000 prize pool distributed among the top eight finishers, reinforcing the Grand Prix’s international prestige.
With an enthusiastic crowd and a full race program, the event once again highlighted the festive and popular spirit of trotting in Mallorca, confirming the Grand Prix des Baléares as one of Europe’s premier equestrian competitions.
