The Balearic Women’s Institute (IBDONA) and the Federation of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises of Mallorca (PIMEM) have launched the project “SMEs, with Them and for Them”, aimed at improving job opportunities for women who are victims of gender-based violence.

The program, supported by SOIB Dona, seeks to increase hiring within small and medium-sized businesses, which will receive guidance and tailored assistance to facilitate the employment of these women. The initiative will reach around 5,000 companies across the islands through PIMEM’s communication channels.

In addition to boosting employment, the project also encourages SMEs that are not legally required to do so to voluntarily adopt equality plans, strengthening their commitment to gender equality.

With a total budget of €16,423, of which €10,000 comes from the State Pact against Gender Violence and the remainder from PIMEM, the initiative builds on a previous experience that successfully integrated women supported by SOIB Dona into the workforce.

Cati Salom, director of IBDONA, highlighted that “the most important thing is to accompany women victims and offer them the opportunity to work in small and medium-sized companies, as this will make it easier for them to remain in the labour market.”

The initiative will also launch a public awareness campaign through media, social networks, and public spaces to raise awareness of the challenges faced by women victims of gender-based violence.
