Inca Regional Hospital has introduced virtual reality (VR) glasses in its oncology day unit to make chemotherapy sessions more bearable for patients. The initiative, made possible through a collaboration agreement with the Balearic branch of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), includes the donation of the devices.

The VR glasses feature 30-minute videos with different themes aimed at creating a state of relaxation, helping patients feel more comfortable during treatment. This technology not only enhances the patient experience but also reduces stress, pain perception, and the sense of time spent in the hospital.

Clinical results show clear benefits: VR use has led to an 84% reduction in perceived pain, a 26% decrease in pre-treatment anxiety, and 88% of patients reported that chemotherapy sessions felt shorter.

The Subdirector of Humanisation at the Balearic Health Service, Gabriel Rojo; the President of the Balearic Cancer Association, José Reyes; and the Managing Director of Inca Hospital, Xisco Ferrer, attended the demonstration of the VR glasses.

This initiative is part of the hospital’s Humanisation Plan, which aims to promote emotional well-being and improve the overall care experience for cancer patients, their families, and caregivers.
