Vaccination Campaign Begins for Influenza and COVID-19 in Balearic Islands’ Care Homes
The campaign involves administering two vaccines concurrently — one against influenza and another against SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) — to elderly residents in care homes, day centre users, and the professionals who serve them. The objective is to bolster their immune systems and lower the risk of infection.
Vaccinations will take place in 75 residential centres, with the following breakdown:
- 54 elderly care homes (39 in Mallorca, 9 in Menorca, and 6 in Ibiza and Formentera)
- 20 centres for people with disabilities (18 in Mallorca, 1 in Menorca, and 1 in Ibiza)
- 1 residence for patients with chronic illnesses, located in Mallorca
Within the elderly care homes, 4,277 users are expected to be vaccinated (3,368 in Mallorca, 424 in Menorca, and 485 in Ibiza and Formentera). In the disability centres, 527 users are anticipated (446 in Mallorca, 21 in Menorca, and 60 in Ibiza).
Both the IMAS vice president and the deputy director for Chronic Care emphasised the critical importance of vaccination to prevent complications from influenza and COVID-19.
