Ibiza, September 11, 2025 — The Balearic Islands Emergency Directorate has confirmed the orange weather alert (IG-1) for Ibiza and Formentera due to forecasts of intense and persistent rainfall that could reach up to 100 litres per square meter within just a few hours.
The Meteobal Technical Advisory Committee has decided to suspend all classes on Thursday in both islands as an exceptional and preventive measure, given the current context following last week’s flooding incidents.

Emergency Services Maintain Orange Alert in Ibiza and Formentera; Classes Suspended as a Precautionary Measure
According to the Spanish Meteorological Agency (AEMET), the orange warning will remain active from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with continuous rain expected throughout the day. Although peak intensity could reach 40 litres per hour, the main risk lies in the long duration of the rainfall.
Meteorological models indicate that the storm system will evolve into a DANA (cut-off low), named Alice, which will affect the eastern coast of Spain and the Balearic Islands over the coming days.
Emergency Services are conducting constant monitoring and have implemented stricter-than-usual safety measures, taking into account the vulnerable state of the islands after the recent floods.
Safety recommendations:
- At home: secure doors and windows, move valuables to higher areas, avoid basements, and cut off electricity if water enters.
- Outdoors: stay away from streams and flood-prone areas, seek shelter in a sturdy building.
- On the road: avoid unnecessary travel, don’t drive through flooded areas, and stop the vehicle if visibility is low.
Authorities urge citizens to call 112 in case of emergency and to rely exclusively on official communication channels for updates.
