The Balearic Government strengthens its presence in one of Spain’s most important markets for folk and traditional arts.
Anna Ferrer opens the fair with “PA”, a production born from the Obrador d’Arrel that symbolises the dialogue between tradition and contemporary creation.
The Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sports, through the Directorate General of Culture, is participating in the 28th edition of the Fira Mediterrània de Manresa, taking place from October 9 to 12, 2025. The fair brings together leading artistic projects linked to roots, tradition, and popular culture.
Since its inception in 1998, the event has become a major gathering point for creators, professionals, and cultural organisations, featuring an interdisciplinary program that encompasses music, dance, theatre, circus, storytelling, and visual arts — fostering dialogue between tradition and modernity.

Four Artistic Proposals from the Balearic Islands Participate in the 28th Fira Mediterrània de Manresa
This year, four artistic projects from the Balearic Islands are taking part with the support of the Directorate General of Culture, within the framework of a collaboration agreement signed in 2022 between the Balearic Government and the Fundació Mediterrània – Fira d’Espectacles d’Arrel Tradicional.
The fair opened with “PA”, by Anna Ferrer, a singer from Menorca. The performance, inspired by the ritual of passing down the family’s baking trade, blends music, performance, and research. On stage with her father, Ferrer explores the connection between art, memory, and tradition.
Other Balearic participants include “Mudanzas Portas”, by Lluki Portas and Joan Tomàs Martínez, a performative piece based on the legacy of a Mallorcan moving company, reflecting on memory, objects, and the passage of time.
The Ibiza-based duo L’Arannà (Anna Sala and Lara Magrinyà) presents “Turmarí”, a reinterpretation of the Ibizan and Formenteran “canto redoblado”, merging traditional vocals with electronic sounds to highlight the Pityusic musical heritage from a young female perspective.
Finally, the weekend will feature “Això no té remei”, by Ramón Bonvehí and Francesca Vadell, an immersive performance inspired by the trementinaires of the Pyrenees, inviting audiences to reflect —with humour and critical spirit— on ancestral knowledge, oral tradition, and the bond with the land.
Ricarda Margarita Vicens, Director General of Culture, is attending the fair, participating in performances by the Balearic artists alongside Catalina Ferrando Ballester, head of the Department of Culture.
Their agenda includes meetings with cultural representatives and fair organisers to strengthen collaboration and promote the international projection of Balearic artistic creation.
Through this participation, the Government of the Balearic Islands reaffirms its commitment to intangible heritage and to supporting artists who work from tradition with a contemporary approach. The goal is to increase the visibility of Balearic art beyond the islands and enhance its presence in key national cultural platforms.
