September was considered normal in terms of rainfall and very warm in temperature, according to AEMET data.

The demand units of Artà and Eivissa enter the alert scenario.

September ended with water reserves at 44% in the Balearic Islands, three points higher than the previous month (41%).
By islands, Mallorca increased from 43% to 45%, Menorca from 34% to 41%, and Ibiza dropped slightly from 27% to 26%. Overall, the archipelago’s situation remains two points lower than the same period last year (46%).

Water Reserves Rise to 44% in September in the Balearic Islands

These figures indicate a stabilisation of water resources after the summer months, coinciding with the beginning of autumn, marked by more regular rainfall. Nevertheless, conditions remain uneven, with some areas still showing stress indicators.

There have been two scenario changes: the demand units of Artà and Eivissa have moved into alert.
Currently, only one demand unit (Formentera) remains in normal status; six (Menorca, Manacor-Felanitx, Migjorn, Palma-Alcúdia, Tramuntana North, and Tramuntana South) are in pre-alert; and Es Pla, Artà, and Eivissa are under alert.

The overall index of the Hydrographic Demarcation stands at 0.337, lower than last year (0.365) and two years ago (0.429).

According to the Spanish Meteorological Agency (AEMET), September was considered normal in rainfall, with an average of 67 l/m², compared to the usual 61 l/m².
By islands:

  • Mallorca: normal (58 l/m² vs. 66 l/m²)
  • Menorca: dry (43 l/m² vs. 59 l/m²)
  • Eivissa: very wet (150 l/m² vs. 61 l/m²)
  • Formentera: very wet (121 l/m² vs. 43 l/m²)

The annual precipitation percentage stands at 96% (Mallorca 96%, Menorca 88%, Pitiusas 107%), reflecting a slightly below-average trend, despite localized improvement in September in the Pitiusas.

Regarding temperatures, September was very warm across all islands, with an average of 23 °C and a +1 °C anomaly compared to the climatic mean. This contributed to continued evaporation, though without a significant impact on reserves, thanks to late-month rainfall.

Given the current situation and the time of year, water reserves are expected to rise during October, particularly if rainfall follows the usual autumn pattern.
