The Government of the Balearic Islands has approved a €15 million funding program for local entities aimed at revitalising and renaturalising tourist zones. The initiative seeks to reduce urban density, limit accommodation capacity, and mitigate the effects of climate change, promoting a more sustainable tourism model.
The program, led by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sports, will enable municipalities and other local bodies to acquire privately owned properties located in tourist areas and repurpose them for environmental and community improvement projects. The grants can cover up to 100% of eligible expenses for projects with a minimum budget of €500,000.
Applications may be submitted within four months from the publication of the call in the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands, and projects must be carried out between October 1, 2025, and August 31, 2028.

To ensure that projects can begin swiftly, subsidies will be paid in advance and in full, without the need for prior guarantees. This measure is designed to help local authorities undertake large-scale urban transformation initiatives.
This line of funding is part of the 2024-2026 Strategic Subsidy Plan and continues the momentum initiated with the EU Next Generation funds, consolidating the shift toward a more circular and environmentally responsible tourism model.
The Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Sports, Jaime Bauzá, emphasised that “this initiative strengthens the Government’s commitment to a balanced and sustainable tourism model that improves residents’ quality of life while protecting the islands’ natural environment.”
According to Bauzá, “renaturalizing tourist areas and reducing overcrowding not only enhances the competitiveness of the Balearic Islands as a leading sustainable destination but also secures a greener, more livable future for the region.”
