The city of Inca has begun work to become the first municipality in the Balearic Islands to implement an Intercultural Coexistence Plan — a pioneering initiative aimed at highlighting the value of cultural diversity and involving the entire community in building a more inclusive and cohesive city.

The plan will serve as a strategic framework to promote social harmony and recognise the positive contributions of people from diverse backgrounds who, since the 1960s, have helped shape Inca’s identity and community life.

This participatory process involves public institutions, social organisations, professionals, and residents. In the coming weeks, the City Council will launch a public survey to gather input from citizens on how to foster greater understanding and interaction among the different cultures that coexist in the municipality.

Based on these contributions, a draft version of the Intercultural Coexistence Plan will be created, outlining actions such as improving welcome protocols for newcomers, enhancing spaces for intercultural exchange, organising awareness and educational activities, and promoting initiatives that encourage mutual respect and community engagement.

The plan is expected to be finalised by the end of the first quarter of 2026, alongside complementary activities that showcase the positive impact of the immigrant community, including their role in revitalising Inca’s commercial and social life.

Through this initiative, Inca reaffirms its commitment to becoming a welcoming, diverse, and inclusive city, where everyone — regardless of origin — can feel part of a shared and cohesive community project.
