October 17, 2025. To commemorate the International Day of Rural Women, celebrated on October 15, the Island Council of Menorca organised a special meeting with the island’s three Professional Agricultural Organisations (OPAs): Unió de Pagesos, FAGME, and Agrame.
Around 40 women connected to the primary sector took part in the event, which included visits to the Thalassa Centre in Es Castell and the Llatzeret. The day served as a space for reflection, dialogue, and recognition of the valuable contribution women make to Menorca’s agricultural landscape.

Menorca Marks the International Day of Rural Women with a Gathering Honouring Female Leadership in Agriculture
During the gathering, the Councillor for Economy and General Services, Maria Antònia Taltavull, highlighted “the importance of giving visibility to the work of women in the primary sector, whose dedication and effort keep Menorca’s countryside and traditions alive.”
Taltavull also emphasised that “rural women are key to ensuring generational renewal, innovation, and sustainability within the island’s agricultural holdings,” reaffirming the Council’s commitment to continue promoting equality policies and initiatives that empower women in rural environments.
This initiative is part of the ongoing efforts of the Island Council of Menorca to value and support rural women, reinforcing their vital role in preserving Menorca’s landscape, cultural heritage, and local economy.
